When I Turned 50: A Journey to Finding Myself
Dec 15, 2024Something shifted when I turned 50, born in 1962 and at the time of writing this am 62! I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but I felt unsettled. Life wasn’t bad, in fact, I was doing all the "right" things. I was studying more, changing jobs, and, for the first time, I wasn’t so concerned about what other people thought of me. I was still struggling with an eating disorder and still started to feel more comfortable in my body, and each year seemed to bring a little more clarity and ease.
And yet, deep down, I had this nagging feeling that something was missing.
You hear all the time about this magical sense of passion and purpose that’s supposed to make life feel meaningful. I was loving what I was doing, but I didn’t feel that spark. It wasn’t a crisis, but it was enough to leave me wondering: Is this it? What am I really here for?
At the time, I thought the “missing” piece was something I needed to find or add, a gap to fill. So, I filled my time. I worked, I studied, I played a little (not enough), and I kept myself busy. But no matter what I did, that unsettled feeling lingered.
Eventually, I began to realize that it wasn’t about filling the gap. The truth was, I had spent so much of my life living in roles, caregiver, worker, student, helper, just wearing different hats at different times. And while those roles were meaningful, deep down, I longed for something else.
I didn’t want a bold, flashy purpose. I just wanted to feel like me.
I wanted a life that felt playful, joyful, and free. I wanted to be of service, yes, and I also wanted space to explore and live in a way that felt vibrant and fun. I wasn’t looking for more to do; I was looking for a way to be.
It took me years to figure this out. My journey, along with the clients I was attracting, who became mirrors for my own growth, helped me realize that the “missing” piece wasn’t something outside of me. It was within me, waiting to be uncovered and honored.
Now, I can see it so clearly. I didn’t need to keep cycling through roles or chasing something to complete me. What I needed was to embrace where I was, who I was, and how I wanted to live.
And when I did, everything shifted.
There’s so much more energy, vitality, and magic in my life now. I’ve stopped searching for “the answer” and started living in a way that feels true to me. And that’s what I want to share with you.
You don’t need to spend years spinning in circles, looking for the thing that will finally make you feel whole. The answers are already inside you, they just need a little guidance to emerge.
If I'm being honest, I’ve read words like this before and thought it was just another sales pitch. Now, I know it’s real and possible, and I want to help others experience it too.
